A dreadful place, Gallipoli
Extract from this letter
"So far we have been between Gallipoli and 'Lemnos' - three hours journey - this time we had to come here for coal, water, food, vegetables and fruit line etc. We start again tomorrow night, its 2 days from here. We anchor about 1/2 mile from firing line - guns going off all round us shaking the ship and startling the life out of me each time they begin - it's a dreadful place Gallipoli, dreadful and awful - don't think I regret coming - the work is terrible but we are needed badly."
