An icecream with my daughter

Harry Norton was killed in action on 15 September 1916, at Flanders. His family were not informed of his death for 5-6 weeks, and continued to write to him. Their letters were returned marked with 'deceased'. Harry wrote to his wife everyday - his letters are very descriptive and personal.

Extracts from this letter

"I hope I will get home for your birthday on 19th December. What a great spree we will have and we will eat such a lot of Ice cream that I might get sick too. Ice cream - Oh it makes my mouth water to just think of it"

"It is hard work marching over the loose sand, the sand shines & hurts our eyes during the day."
