Extracts from this letter

"Now, Mother dear, do not start worrying about me as I am as right as rain, and you may be sure I shall be as far down in my dug out as possible when any firing is going on. I am not sorry that the Bombing Course was cancelled as the Bombers are known as the 'Suicide Club' but all's six in this war!"

"I bought a very heavy mackintosh in Salisbury - it has a guarantee inside - and so it is should keep the rain out as I paid 55/- for it... I may have to draw on my L/C but I don't want to yet. I have about £5 owing to me, but I do not know when we shall be paid..."

"Now, Mother dear, don't you try and save your cash, but get anything you want as we can all look after ourselves, and I shall have quite a decent Bank a/c when I get back - of course that is unless I have a few months in England."
