Wish you were here

Harry Norton was killed in action on 15 September 1916, at Flanders. His family were not informed of his death for 5-6 weeks, and continued to write to him. Their letters were returned marked with 'deceased'. Harry wrote to his wife everyday - his letters are very descriptive and personal.

Extract from this letter

"I know what a lot you will try to do but just remember me Sweetheart. I often wish you were a man so that I could have you beside me all day long. I think such a lot about you especially at eventide & 10 o'clock at night & wonder what you are doing & the children, cuddle them for me & tell them daddy is thinking of them."
