Full of drill

Harry Norton was killed in action on 15 September 1916, at Flanders. His family were not informed of his death for 5-6 weeks, and continued to write to him. Their letters were returned marked with 'deceased'. Harry wrote to his wife everyday - his letters are very descriptive and personal.

Extracts from this letter

"I could have stayed at Headquarters here as QMS but I want to do something & poke a bayonet in a German before I come home. We are so full of drill now that when the time comes for us to go into action it will be just like going on parade..."

"I will be able to talk & tell you such a lot when I get back 'home sweet home' again and it wont' be long now dearie. Only a few more months now and what a happy time we will have."
