Extracts from this letter

"I'll be sent to Ismailia to join my unit any day now ... What a lovely time I've had at 'Aotea' its really been a dream..."

"No mail yet but hear it's in Egypt. God knows where. The way we are treated is scandalous, fancy not a letter since the 18th Feb & it's now the 14th March... Remember when I get to Ismailia that letters will be short & uninteresting, the utmost secrecy will be maintained & please don't worry when we are in the firing line, I'll come back there's nothing surer."
