Squashing frogs
Harry Norton was killed in action on 15 September 1916, at Flanders. His family were not informed of his death for 5-6 weeks, and continued to write to him. Their letters were returned marked with 'deceased'. Harry wrote to his wife everyday - his letters are very descriptive and personal.

"One can see the humour in most things. A month ago we were pestered with flies & sand. Now we cannot lie down on the grass for frogs. It is horrible to sit down on a frog & hear it go squash, and then we have to get a stick & scrape the remains off, but we are getting used to it'."
